Pantry Porn: A Look Into My Kitchen Cupboard

My pantry is somewhat of a modern-day apothecary. It is stocked to the brim with an ever-growing collection of tinctures, powders, drops, capsules, and oils for all my witch-crafting needs. From natural herbal remedies, to adaptogens, potent vitamin supplements, to herbs and spices, I love having a cupboard filled with anything I might need to support my body, mind, and soul.

This cupboard might be full of goodness, but I genuinely believe you cannot out-supplement a poor diet, or unhealthy lifestyle. You can definitely take a spoonful of activated charcoal to mitigate some of the damage that a night out drinking alcohol will do, but why not just remove alcohol in the first place? Over the years, I have made strides towards getting rid of all toxic behaviours, beliefs, products, and people in my life that don't serve my highest good- and truly focused on nourishing my body with real food, inspiring people, and all-natural products. This pantry is the cherry on the gluten-free cake.

When supplementing in any way, it is imperative you use only the highest quality products. Even though adaptogens are "real food" per say, they are also a concentrated (dual-extracted, or tinctured) product, and thus infinitely more potent than in their original state. Same goes for a vitamin or mineral supplement: if you're consuming a concentrated form of anything, it must be high quality or you risk ingesting a concentration of a product that at best has no nutritional value or has gone rancid, and at worst is tainted with heavy metals, GMO's, round-up, or other neurotoxic chemicals. Seeing an "organic" label is not enough. Today's society has popularized the health movement and more and more brands are coming out with dodgy products with questionable ethical standards. Ask questions, find out where the companies are sourcing their products and how they are manufacturing them. If that's too much, get advice from someone you genuinely trust to help guide you. If you're not in a financial place to invest in the highest quality supplement: stick to real food.

Over the past 6 months, I have completely stopped taking vitamin supplements (like vitamin C, selenium, methylated b-12, etc) because they have intuitively felt "dead" to me. I did continue taking Thorne's vitamin D/K2 because well, I've been under the spell of a Canadian winter. But as far as other vitamins go (you can see I have quite the collection of Thorne products), none felt necessary. Popping a pill feels more and more wrong by the day, and considering my nutrient dense, vegetable and high-quality meat filled, organic diet: I just focused on adaptogens as a means to boost my body's resilience, cognition, strength, and stamina.

At the moment, my go-to morning supplements are 1 full dropper of Sunfood's Marine Phytoplankton, 4-5 drops of Nascent iodine,  4-5 drops of 1,000IUs of Thorne's Vitamin D, a probiotic (currently taking Prescript Assist brand), and whatever tonic herbs and adaptogens I incorporate into my morning drink. (I'll drop off the vitamin D when the summer sun hits the Northern Atmosphere).

My Favourite + Trusted Brands & Products

Willow and Sage Apothecary for all sorts of medicinal mushrooms, roots, and adaptogenic extracts. Gillian who runs the company is an absolute goddess mama, her intentions are so genuine and pure, and her radiant energy is absolutely emanating from all of their products. The company is Australian, but they deliver world wide and are absolutely worth the investment. The herbs and mushrooms I currently have, use, and love from W&S are: reishi mushroom, chaga mushroom, he shou wu, astragalus root, and cordyceps mushroom.

Made With Raw Love are the world's healthiest, most medicinal, and absolutely delicious raw, organic chocolates. Tahlia and Scott hand make their chocolates in the Byron Bay region of NSW, Australia- and are dear friends of mine. I actually visited their chocolate factory when I was living in Byron, and can attest to not only the incredible, ethical brands they use to make their chocolates and new elixir powders; but more than anything how much love they truly put into their products. I've tried all their flavours, and my favourites are Immunishroom (reishi + chaga) , Open Heart (frankincense + blueberry), Matcha Latte (white chocolate + matcha), and Mint Biotic Crisp (mint + pre and probiotics). Their chocolates contain NO added sugar, and are sweetened with erythritol and luo han guo extract. #chocolateforbreakfast approved.

Sun Potion Transformational Foods is a brand you almost certainly know and probably already use. Their golden logo is quite literally all over Instagram and in the pantry of all your favourite celebrity health gurus, and no wonder. Sun Potion is making waves in the adaptogenic community with its high quality extraction of medicinal plants, superfoods and tonic herbs. They source Organic and/or Wildcrafted products and we never use ingredients that have been chemically treated in any way- and I trust their stringent quality standards commitment to purity. Sun Potion products I have on hand and use daily are pine pollen, mucuna pruriens, ashwagandha, tibetan rhodiola, euccomia bark, tocos, and chlorella.

Thorne Research is a natural supplement company that was brought to my attention by Dr. Rhonda Patrick, a badass scientist Jedi who is passionate about using scientific evidence to optimize her biology. Thorne is a company that sets the standard of quality for nutritional supplements, they acknowledged from the start that supplement manufacturers were the problem, and "while other companies were investing in promoting their products, [they] were investing in sourcing exemplary ingredients, perfecting [their] manufacturing methods, and participating in clinical research". They cut no corners and spare no expense. Their products are more expensive than the rest, but with no doubt in my mind are absolutely worth the investment.

E3 Live is an all-organic marine superfood company. Their products are absolutely game changing for brain health and are concentrations of aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), a nutrient dense superfood that contains over 65 vitamins, minerals, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Some come fresh-frozen, and others are meticulously crafted into a shelf-stable powder. My personal favourited are the Brain ON, and Blue Majik. Take them as a shot in some water, or add them to smoothies.

Sunfood is a company that stocks many different products, and I've found their range to be reliably of high quality. I take their
Oceans Alive 2.0 Marine Phytoplankton religiously, but other products I have used include chlorella tablets, colloidal silver, chia seeds, macadamia nuts, and coconut wraps.

Other favourite products/ brands in my pantry

Cacao/ Cacao Butter: Big Tree Farms Balinese cacao, or Earth Circle Organics Balinese cacao.

Tinctures: Paul Stamet's Host Defence has a wide rang of medicinal mushroom/ tonic herb extracts; Suro's Chaga extract

Elemental Wizdom is a company that is truly on some next level shit. From superhuman adaptogenic blends, tinctures, oils, probiotics, and digestive enzymes- they are seriously creating mind blowing high vibrational products. I personally use their pine pollen, superhuman probiotics, and superhuman digestive enzymes.

Iodine: Nascent Iodine.

Collagen: I've used many brands, and rotate among the organic grass-fed companies depending on where I am in the word/ what is available. The usual suspects are: Organika, Zint!, Great Lakes, and Bulletproof. I almost exclusively order collagen off of iHerb because its significantly less expensive than buying the same brand in-store (code DST929 will get you an added discount).

Matcha: currently all about Mizuba Tea Co.

Maca: Earth Circle Organics, or Sunfood.

Probiotics: Prescript Assist is a notoriously incredible shelf-stable probiotic and pre-biotic brand, however they recently changed their formula. I still have a few bottles of their OG formula, but also rotate in other brands including Renew Life. You actually don't want to take a single brand of probiotics over a long period of time, doing so can actually narrow the spectrum of bacteria in your gut. I like to switch up different brands a few times a year, and more than anything focus on introducing pre-biotic foods (like onion and jerusalem artichoke) as well as probiotic rich fermented foods (sauerkraut, kim-chi, coconut yogurt, coconut kefir, beetroot kvass, etc). You can learn more about the Prescript Assist situation HERE

Update: my new go-to probiotics are Elemental Wizdom's "Superhuman probiotics".. game changer.

Coconut Butter: Nutiva's Coconut Mana, or Cap Beauty's Coconut Butter.

Coconut Oil: Any brand that boasts organic and cold pressed. Note: I no longer use any form of MCT oil.. had an epiphany not long ago on how unnecessarily refined/ processed it is, pretty disgusted by the stuff and won't even use it as body oil. Stick to coconut oil, homies.

Olive Oil: Acropolis Bio-dynamic Olive Oil, hands down.

Cinnamon: Make sure whichever brand you use is certified organic CEYLON cinnamon. Ceylon is the true cinnamon that boasts medicinal glucose-balancing effects. Cassia cinnamon is cheaper and not medicinal like its ceylonic (not a word) cousin. If it doesn't explicitly say "ceylon" assume it isn't.

Ghee: Pure Cultured Organic + Grass-fed Ghee, or 4th & Heart Organic, Grass-Fed Ghee. (I order them all off of iHerb)
